Valedictory Night Preparation 2019

Valedictory is a memorable and rewarding evening, culminating in a night which celebrates the success of student’s final year of schooling. On this evening, students are presented with certificates and acknowledged on stage. To assist in maximising their success, we like to make students aware of the types of awards they may be rewarded. By making students aware of award criteria, helps ensure they can work towards their very best.

What Presentation of certificates, key rings, awards, acknowledgement of achievements and a celebration of the students’ schooling.

St Patrick’s College Awards:

A for Effort:

• completing set tasks (class time / homework)

• shown perseverance • shown interest and attention

• ability to work with peers / teacher

• ability to work without close supervision • actively cooperative

This is awarded by teachers regarding what they observe in class. Students need to display all of these characteristics across five classes to be awarded the MARIST SISTERS AWARD.

CHRISTIAN BROTHERS’ AWARD FOR ACADEMIC MERIT- Awardees will be determined by results at the time of Verification in regards to their five best subjects (only 5 subjects can be counted): VHA, HA, SA : 5, 4, 3 points; over best five subjects. • Merit : 20, 21, 22 points.

CHRISTIAN BROTHERS’ AWARD FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE - Awardees will be determined by results at the time of Verification in regards to their five best subjects (only 5 subjects can be counted): • VHA, HA, SA : 5, 4, 3 points; over best five subjects. • Excellence : > 23 points. 

MERCY SISTERS’ SUBJECT AWARDS • Awarded to the highest achieving student in each subject

JULIE DELANEY MEMORIAL AWARD Awarded to a student studying a Vocational Education & Training Course, on the basis of:

• exit statement results

• application to set tasks

• ability to work with peers

• ability to use own initiative

• ability to work without close supervision

• conduct, manner and bearing of a standard that reflects the good name of the College

• completion of a majority of relevant learning outcomes.

ST PATRICK’S MEDAL – BISHOP BERNARD WALLACE AWARD (DUX) - Based on exit statement results and position at Verification:

• demonstrated outstanding academic results (best five subjects) • demonstrated leadership through consistent application to their studies

THE FRANCIS XAVIER FULTON MEMORIAL AWARD – staff award

• for excellence in academic, cultural and sporting endeavours in the spirit of the mission statement of the College

• Students will be nominated by staff for this award, successful nominees will then be approached by Mrs Brauer to submit a resume for staff consideration.

ANTHONY McNEILL MEMORIAL AWARD – CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP AWARD – student and staff award Criteria to be judged by:

• commitment to Christian belief and practice

• promoting partnership between students, staff and parents as expressed in the college mission statement

• A shortlist will be compiled by administration

BUCAS AWARD - student and staff award Criteria to be judged by:

• honourable representation of the College

• consistently good application in academic endeavour

• committed service to and concern for others

• commendable sense and use of initiative

• excellence in conduct and dress

• A shortlist will be compiled by administration

Timeline for Bucas and McNeill Award:

Term 3

Information about awards presented on assembly Wednesday 28 August (Week 7)

Collect a nomination form for Bucas or Anthony McNeill award in the office (near the sign in desk)

From Wednesday 28 August until Wednesday 16 October 2019

Term 4

Nominations close for Bucas, McNeill and Fulton awards 3:00pm Wednesday 16 October (Week 2)

Mrs Brauer will inform nominees of nomination and that they have to write up A4 sheet of paper that satisfies criteria. Students have to submit this by Monday 21 October 10.33am (MT) so it can be displayed in cabinets near office and on teacher noticeboard in staffroom. 12:49pm (during lunch) Friday 18 October (Week 2)

Resume displayed in cabinets Monday 21 October (Week 3)

Names of students nominated for Bucas and McNeill award displayed on assembly. Wednesday 23 October (Week 3)

Voting will take place Thursday afternoon during period 5 or 6 Thursday 24 October (Week 3)

Awards announced at Valedictory Monday 11 November (Week 6)
